The Oceanography Centre, University of Cyprus (OC – UCY) in collaboration with a licensed subcontractor (ENERCO Energy Recovery Ltd) of OC – UCY, carried out the second collection of ghost gear that where placed in collection bins in the target areas of the action of action C6 – Reducing the impact of ghost gear in turtles: the port of Latsi and the fishing shelters of Pomos and Kato Pyrgos. These ghost gear were removed from the bottom of the sea by the diving team of OC – UCY. Local fishermen discarded also their useless fishing gear in the collection bins. In total 280 kg of ghost gear were collected and converted into energy by ENERCO Energy Recovery Ltd. This amount of ghost gear corresponded to thermal energy of 4760 MJ.
