Jun“Elpida” back in the sea
With great joy and satisfaction, the Marine Aquaculture Research Center (MARC) of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) released today, a green turtle (Chelonia mydas) named “Elpida” back to its natural environment. “Elpida” was located on June 8, 2020, by amateur fishermen in the sea area of Zygi with fishing line in its oral cavity. The young turtle was transported to the Sea Turtle Rescue Center located at MARC where it underwent examinations and the fishing line found blocking its esophagus was removed.
