The Natura 2000 site ” Arcipelago delle Pelagie”, cod. ITA040013, has been expanded, and now includes an important foraging area for sea turtles. Therefore, A key goal of the Euroturtles Project has been fully achieved. In August 2019, WWF Italy submitted a request to the Region of Sicily supported by a preliminary study by UNIROMA. The Region of Sicily, to comply also with the Natura 2000 guidelines for the network of sites of the European Commission, immediately accepted the proposal and began the expansion process. The process was successful, and safeguard measures have also been enacted. Good news for Mediterranean sea turtles.
